Resources of Interest

Abstract: 

We will explore a variety of databases that are available through the National Center for Biotechnology Information. These include genomic and phenotype databases as well as gene expression databases. An introduction will also be given for a new role for librarians in the role of curators for an evidence-based medicine database.

Dr. Osterbur's Bio

David L. Osterbur obtained his B.S. in Biology and his M.S. in Genetics from the University of Illinois at Urbana. He was granted the Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of California at Berkeley. He did postdoctoral work at Indiana University and was a research faculty member at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He went on to earn a Master of Library Science from Simmons College and worked as a librarian for DuPont Pharmaceuticals - Radiopharmaceuticals Division. He then became the Head Librarian of the Biological Laboratories Library at Harvard. He moved to the Harvard Medical School campus and became the Director of Public and Access services, then served as the interim Director of the Countway Library. He is now the Director of Entrepreneurial Ventures at the Countway Library of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School and the Co-Executive Director of the Harvard Medical School Library of Evidence.
