Abstract:

Interact with Serco’s classification experts in a three-part workshop that explores techniques for using CPC in a search.

The three-part workshop will begin with general principles for searching with CPC.  You will learn how to interpret the CPC system to identify appropriate CPC symbols as well as techniques for search construction.

Secondly, participants will apply these principles to a specific search example in a breakout session.  Three breakout session choices will be offered:  a mechanical search, a biochemical search, or an electrical search.  Each breakout session will be an interactive and collaborative activity guided by Serco’s classification experts.  Presented with a search request, each breakout group will assess which CPC symbols are appropriate, determine how to construct the classification search(es), and evaluate the classification search results.

Finally, all workshop participants will reconvene to discuss key takeaways from the breakout session examples.

Reference materials for the workshop include presentation handouts and a classification analysis for all three breakout session examples.  Additionally, Serco will provide each workshop attendee with a classification analysis for a search topic of their choice.
