Professional Society AOCS [the science and technology of oils, fats, proteins, surfactants and related materials] have offered series of three webinars “Making Sense of Patents – A Guide for Scientists and Engineers”. The webinar below is Part 2 of these series:

Making Sense of Patents - Making Sense of Claims, Part 2 of 3 September 8, 2020  3:00 PM  - 4:00 PM EDT

Elaborating on his first webinar, “Making Sense of Patents – A Guide for Scientists and Engineers”, Scott Bloomer, Director of Technical Services at AOCS, will help attendees continue to understand patents by providing a brief outline of the parts of a patent and explaining how these parts contribute to the meaning of patent claims. Learning objectives for this webinar include how to identify central terms of the patent claims, finding the meaning of these central terms and synthesizing these parts to clarify the intent of patent claims.

About the presenter: Scott Bloomer is the Director of Technical Services at AOCS. Before coming to AOCS, Bloomer worked for a major research department drafting, filing and defending patents and carrying out freedom-to-operate studies. After several years working in fats and oils research labs he became a Registered US Patent Agent. He understands patents from both the inventor's scientific perspective and the legal perspective, and how to interpret between them.
