Well, this morning we should be in the second day of the plenary of the PIUG Annual Conference. We would have had a fun party by the pool last night. I would have had bacon for breakfast. But mostly I would have connected with all my colleagues.
I attended a webinar from STN last week (hi @SarahStokes) and it got me to thinking about how that probably would have been part of the STN Patent Forum on Thursday. I have been using BizInt SmartChart for Patents more and more this year and I would have been to their workshop and caught up with them and the puppies. I was looking forward to an interesting conversation with the Derwent folks about the future of the profession. I need to get some more skills with PatBase and their analytics. What is Questel up to these days and what is on their roadmap for the future? I attended an IPO webinar the other day and heard from WIPO and Google about some of the things they were working on and that would have been part of the meeting. The EPO would be telling us about their new initiatives. Also, did an IPO webinar on willful blindness, and we were scheduled to have a presentation on that at the conference and I was looking forward to talking with the presenter about the implications of that.
Yes, I have gotten some of the same content through other means. Yes, I am fortunate to be able to work from home and be as busy as ever. But this highlights for me what I appreciate about PIUG the most, which is the people. I have a place to ask questions. I have a place to get feedback. I have colleagues who do what I do. I have friends who do what I do. Right now, I am missing all of you. I am appreciating how much I have gotten from all of you. We will probably continue to do more and more virtually, but I hope we don't lose the power of the personal relationships that we have as part of the community.
I hope that you are all safe and well. I hope that I will see you in October. I hope you know how much I appreciate all of you.
