EPO Inventor’s certificates – a forgotten source of prior art? (KL42-2021) (Registration)
Inventors' certificates were the most important form of IP protection in a number of formerly socialist countries, in particular the Soviet Union. … with several hundreds of thousands of documents, they are still an important source of prior. In this course: What are the differences between patents and inventors' certificates? How are they relevant to searches in certain jurisdictions? What special challenges will you face when trying to access these documents? … in which countries do they still exist as a major form of IP protection? We will also show you how you can use Espacenet and some national sources to access at least basic information on inventors' certificates from various jurisdictions.
See also a resentation “A forgotten source of prior art? Understanding and searching inventors' certificates” (113 p.) by Eva Straková & Jürgen Mühl at 2020 EPO Patent Information conference (Nov.4, 2020 at 9:30 CET); see also notes to this presentation in Oct.25, 2020 PIUG-PF post inventorscertificates

Finnegan Boosting Valuation with Unicorn Patents (Registration)
Speaker: Gerson Panitch, partner and patent strategist, Finnegan
Everyone is talking about unicorn companies—a very rare breed of private company with a valuation of at least a billion dollars. As with companies, patent portfolios can also be unicorns. A unicorn patent portfolio is a group of patents, strategically crafted to block competitors from entering a high-value market segment. There are three types of patents: Low value patents, competition-inhibiting patents, and unicorn patents. Unfortunately, as many as 97% of patents worldwide fall into the low value category. In this webinar, Finnegan partner and patent strategist Gerson Panitch will teach you how to spot unicorn patents, avoid the low value patents, and maximize the chances of your company achieving unicorn patent status.
