Under the LESI-EPO Memorandum of Understanding for “helping businesses overcome the current economic crisis by investing in R&D and making the best possible use of patented inventions and the IP system as a whole”, LES Spain-Portugal and the EPO Patent Academy are organizing this seminar focused at explaining how to extract knowledge from patents for informed decision-making in business.
The differences between a novelty search and patent analytics will be explained, as well as an approach proposing how patent knowledge may be derived from patent data. Challenges such as name harmonisation will be clarified, and there will be an analysis on how classification symbols may be used to map technologies, examine competitors’ patent portfolios and identify upcoming trends.
