Information on what to expect from the hotel is provided HERE.

Hotel Reservations

Hotel reservations at the PIUG group rate are available by contacting the hotel at 1-888-236-2427 or via the PIUG Conference Reservation web page. Identify yourself as attending the PIUG 2023 Annual Conference.

Book your group rate for PIUG 2023.

Message to Attendees: PIUG has made every effort to secure the best possible group nightly room rate for you at this event. That rate results from a negotiated overall package of event needs such as sleeping rooms, meeting room space and other requirements. Contracts with the venue include a provision to reduce event costs if PIUG meets or exceeds its minimum sleeping room block guarantee. Conversely, event costs will increase if PIUG falls short of its minimum room block guarantee. Please help PIUG keep the costs of this event as low as possible by booking your housing needs at the designated host hotel and through the reservation process created by PIUG. Reserving elsewhere means you are booking outside the contracted room block, jeopardizing PIUG's ability to meet its contracted obligations and to keep registration fees to a minimum. PIUG appreciates your support and understanding of this important issue. Thank you.

Check-in time is 3:00 pm. Check-out time is noon.

Today, April 12th, the booking deadline for the room block has extended by hotel management to 11:59 PM, April 17, 2023. Please remember to make your hotel reservation prior to 11:59 PM EDT on April 17, 2023 in order to guarantee the room prices negotiated by PIUG for this conference. After that, it is at the hotel's discretion to accept additional reservations, which will be subject to prevailing rates and availability. Depending on availability, the hotel will honor the PIUG room rate from April 27 - May 5, 2023.  Please contact admin@piug.org, if you need assistance with booking a room.

Hotel Related Transportation

Regional Train

Take Amtrak to the Amtrak/VRE Station (110 Callahan Drive, Alexandria, VA) which stops on the opposite side of the tracks from the Metro Train King St.-Old Town station. Exit the train and walk to King Street, then Daingerfield and then to Diagonal (3 minutes), then follow directions below under "By Metro Train."

Ronald Reagan (DCA) Airport – By Metro Train (Preferred)

This is the easiest way to get to the conference site if you don't mind walking a few hundred meters. Pick up the train outside the terminal and above the street level. Purchase a Metrocard at the station and check the map for the fare to King Street-Old Town (one way will be less than $3.00); you will need this card to enter and exit the train line. Take either the Yellow or the Blue Line two stops south (towards Franconia-Springfield on the Blue Line or Huntington on the Yellow Line), exiting the train at King Street-Old Town. This trip will take less than eight minutes. Take the escalator down from the platform, use your Metro Card to exit, and immediately upon leaving the station, turn right. Walk about 100 meters to the street light at the corner where Diagonal Road turns into Delaney Street at the Corner of Duke Street. Cross Duke Street and down about 250 meters is the USPTO in a tall building at the end of the street. You will pass by the Westin hotel on the right before you get to the USPTO.

In front of the train station at King Street is a parking lot and the terminal for the Free King Street Trolley

See the map of the Free King Street Trolley which will take you through Old Town, stopping every two blocks. Remember this as you may wish to visit the stores and restaurants along this street during your stay. Many people will hike down King Street to the harbor (about three km) and then take this free bus back to the Metro station.

Ronald Reagan (DCA) Airport – By Taxi or Rideshare

Pick up a taxi at the stand in front of the terminal. Ride should take about 20 minutes and cost about $20-$35.

For Uber or Lyft, there is a designated pickup location that differs from the taxi location. Check these web pages in advance: Using Uber or Lyft at National Airport and Uber at Reagan National Airport

Once at The Westin, a concierge can call a taxi for you. Alternatively, you can call Yellow Cab at +1-703-549-2500 or White Top Cab at +1-703-683-4004.

Dulles (IAD) Airport

If you are flying internationally, you will probably land at Dulles Airport which is about 36 miles from Alexandria; but if you have a choice between airports, pick Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA).

Getting from Dulles Airport to Alexandria can be expensive (taxi, Uber, etc. can be $80 -$175 or more, though this is the fastest method), but check out this site, Washington Dulles Airport, ahead of time for alternatives, including a combination of bus and subway (less than $15, though this will take much more time than alternatives).

Check Uber for Dulles International Airport/ (Uber Black from Dulles to The Westin Alexandria runs up to $135) and Lyft for IAD price estimator.

Reasonable Price, 45-90 minute commute

Super Shuttle. A shared ride runs $35 and a non-stop ride runs about $70 and will pick you up at the airport and drop you off at the conference hotel.

Cheapest Price, 90-120 minute

Pick up the 5A L'Enfant Plaza Station bus at Dulles Main Terminal (follow signs to buses) to the N Moore St & Rosslyn Station on the Blue Line subway. Take the Blue Line South (towards Franconia-Springfield) seven stops to King Street-Old Town and follow the instructions above under "By Train." Check the Moovit App

Baltimore Airport (BWI)

This airport is about 44 miles (71 km) from Alexandria, VA, and if you have a choice, pick Ronald Reagan airport, but if you must fly into Baltimore, check Baltimore Airport (BWI) to Alexandria-VA-USA for travel options to the conference hotel.

To get to the conference hotel from BWI, take a shuttle bus to the train terminal at the airport. At the train terminal, you can take either a MARC or an Amtrak train. MARC trains are less expensive than Amtrak, however, MARC is a commuter rail service, so it tends to have more trains heading toward Washington in the mornings and fewer in the afternoons since the trains run with the commuter flow. There's also no service on weekends. On Amtrak, you'll pay between $12 and $33 one way depending on what train you get on. The MARC train will cost $6 each way. The train ride to Union Station will be about 40 minutes, plus another 30 minutes on the subway, plus all the time spent waiting for trains and so forth. Take MARC or Amtrak to Washington's Union Station. At Union Station, transfer to the Metro subway system and take the Red Line to the Metro Center station. At Metro Center, switch to the Blue Line and take it to the King Street station then follow the instructions for walking from the Metro station to the hotel in this travel section under Ronald Reagan DCA Airport.

If you take Amtrak, you may be able to get a train that is going through Washington and stopping at Alexandria (it stops next to the Metro station there). It will cost $35 each way.

Check Uber for BWI and Lyft for BWI.
