The AIA Workshop will focus on the First-Inventor-to-File provisions of the AIA, which went into effect on March 16, 2013. The workshop will also take a look at how the AIA has revised 35 U.S.C. 102, which is the statute that defines prior art. There will be discussions about the ways in which the AIA has broadened the scope of prior art, as well as the exception provisions that serve to exclude certain items from the scope of prior art. Several examples will illustrate the new provisions. The workshop will also focus on how to determine whether an application is subject to the AIA, or to pre-AIA law.
